Procedure

In-Vitro Fertilisation with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Donated Oocytes

Description

The remainder of treatment is performed by ultrasonography screening as well as by maintaining hormonal levels. The oocytes are extracted from the female donor’s ovaries by making a puncture-like incision in the follicles. They are prepared and classified in the laboratory. The medical team performing the procedure have the responsibility of selecting the donor. In addition to this, they shall guarantee the chosen donor has the most similar phenotypical and immunological makeup and greatest possibility for compatibility with the female recipient and her family. The semen is prepared in the laboratory so as to remove certain components and in order to select the most suitable spermatazoids for fecundation to take place.  In intracytoplasmatic sperm injection (ICSI), a spermatozoid, after having been previously selected and immobilized, is introduced into the cytoplasma of the mature oocyte (MII). Once the fecundation process has been successful, which is determined by observing the first embryo divisions taking place and may vary in each particular case, the number and stage of embryos (cells/blast cells) are selected so as to be introduced into the woman’s uterus.
